How much content do I need for organic search

Part of the On Web Marketing™ Information Center.

Helps set expectations for content volume by topic instead of chasing a fixed page count.

A common question is how much content is enough for organic search. There is no magic number of pages or words that fits every site. The real answer depends on how many topics you want to be known for and how deeply you are willing to cover them.

Think in terms of topics, not total pages

Instead of aiming for a fixed number of pages, start with your topics.

  • List the main services or solutions you provide.
  • For each one, list the key questions and concerns buyers have.
  • Decide which of those questions deserve their own articles.

If you have ten important topics and five solid articles under each, that is already a meaningful Information Center. The right amount of content is what it takes to answer real questions in a complete way.

Depth matters more than thin coverage

A smaller set of strong, detailed articles will usually perform better than many thin pages. Each article should:

  • Answer one main question clearly.
  • Include simple explanations and examples.
  • Connect to related pages in your Information Center.

Over time, you can add more content as new questions appear. The goal is steady depth, not hitting a single page count and stopping.
