How do I choose which internal pages to link to in articles

Part of the On Web Marketing™ Information Center.

Explains how to make internal links helpful for readers and search engines.

Internal links inside your articles help visitors discover related content and also help search engines understand how your pages relate to each other. The most useful links are relevant and intentional, not random.

Think about the reader first

  • Link when another page clearly expands on a point.
  • Use link text that describes what the reader will get.
  • Avoid linking simply to push traffic if the page is not a good fit.

If a link feels natural and helpful as you read aloud, it is probably a good choice.

Support your main content hubs

  • Identify a small number of high value service pages and pillar articles.
  • Look for chances to link to those from related Information Center pages.
  • Make sure hubs also link back out to their supporting articles.

Over time, this creates a clear internal structure. Search engines can see which pages carry more weight, and visitors have a smoother path from questions to solutions.
